Committee Manager

This role has a starting salary of £40,296 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week.

This is an 18-month fixed-term contract.

We are excited to be hiring a new Committee Manager to join our fantastic Democratic Services team. The team is based in Woodhatch Place, Reigate. This is a hybrid role and the Council operates an agile working policy. As a team we are office based, on average, two days per week. Outside of this there there will be opportunity to work flexibly from different locations according to business need.

About the Team

The Democratic Services team are flexible and friendly and sit right at the heart of the council's political and strategic decision making. We work together to solve problems and come up with new ideas. Our work can be high profile and subject to pressure so we always aim to support one another and share our knowledge and experience.

About the Role

Working at the heart of the decision-making process in Democratic Services, you will provide support and guidance to Members in their local, strategic and civic roles. The role will involve day-to-day contact with County Councillors and Senior Officers.

In this challenging and varied post, you will be supporting meetings of the Council's regulatory and other decision-making committees. Tasks will include co-ordinating committee agendas, reports and minutes, attending formal and informal meetings and drawing attention to procedural issues to ensure statutory guidelines are met.

Shortlisting Criteria

We're looking for someone with a keen interest in the key issues facing local government today and a broad understanding of the law and practice of local authority meetings.

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Experience of producing committee agendas, reports and minutes
  • An understanding of the law relating to local government decision making
  • The ability to manage a diverse workload to deadlines, develop and work to agreed procedures and translate complex information into clear, concise reports
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience of working with councillors and an understanding of their support needs
  • Strong IT skills - experience of using Modern.gov or a similar committee management software package would be particularly relevant
  • Sound judgment, political sensitivity and a creative, innovative approach
